“This new program is yet another exciting example of the continuation of Petro Jacyk’s main philanthropic focus and legacy. I am very happy to say that the next generation continues the work and mandate of the Education Foundation that he founded, which is to support Ukrainian Education programs at renowned universities. And now, for the first time, a co-operative program has been established with universities from his two dear homes…. Canada, his land of opportunity, and his native… Ukraine.”

-Nadia Jacyk, President
Inauguration of the Program in Toronto, September 23, 2008

Petro Jacyk Program for the Study of Modern Ukrainian History and Society
The Petro Jacyk Program for the Study of Modern Ukrainian History and Society was established in 2008 by a donation from the Petro Jacyk Education Foundation and a matching of funds by the Province of Alberta.

The Program is a cooperative venture between the Ivan Franko Lviv National University, the Ukrainian Catholic University, and the University of Alberta.

The Ivan Franko Lviv National University will extend and complement the research activities of the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Alberta and at the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, Ukraine.

The Ivan Franko Lviv National University is responsible for the publication of the annual Ukrainian historical journal “Ukraina Moderna” and the organization of international symposia on modern Ukrainian history topics.
